Further Research: teruhiro yanagihara

For my final project I will be looking at Teruhiro Yanagihara work. He is a Japanese Architect who uses japandi style to create these minimalistic designs, his known for his attention to detail. I will use Teruhiro's work because his Japandi designs beautifully blend with a modern minimalistic aesthetic. I would like to incorporate his designs in my project such as, His use for raw natural materials, his ability to pay attention to details to create a calm serene environment and his combination of japandi with a modern style.. His projects cross boundaries and cultures to form encounters between contemporary design, industries and Japanese crafts. ( Teruhiro Yanagihara ND). 

I will like to incorporate the way he uses natural materials in his designs because they give simplicity to the environment and it provides a connection with nature. From the image below Teruhiro has used materials such as stone, soil, terrazzo and iron. He has incorporated nature element like the tree seating at the side. Using these materials in his design has created a sense of warmth and given harmony to the space. chef Masayo Funakoshi’s restaurant in Kyoto, I created an atrium within an old Japanese house and finished it with plaster and terrazzo made of sand and soil from the mountains of Kyoto (Design Anthology, 2021). I want to recreate this style of design because natural materials often have a unique visual interest and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Currently Teruhiro is researching natural materials. 

In future I want to research natural materials and work on the concept of reinterpreting history in my designs. I would like to design spaces that are rooted in the land and an understanding of climate and history, instead of spaces that can be created anywhere using new building materials.(Design Anthology, 2021).

    You have talked about materials here now it would be a good idea to think about the space itself and space planning particularly as this interior designer has a background in spatial design and architecture an influence clearly present in the design
